Analysis of rendering 440 select options 3 different ways in 4 different browsers:
- Clearly, and as expected, safari rendered items at light speed. The 2.2 milliseconds per option is wonderful, and I want to even go beyond that.
- Also, ie was the slowest, at nearly 28 milliseconds per item. Ouch! Because IE does not like to render classes inline, I added a test where the classes would be added to the elements later on, but this only saved 1 second in IE. (it always saves time in IE). However, other browsers had the reverse outcome.
- I was surprised to see that if you added all the items programmatically in javascript as opposed to simply rendering whats already in the DOM, its nearly 1/2 millisecond faster for browsers. That is a lot, considering hundreds of items.
