I am calling this my best piece. It has all the elements I look for in one of my own drawings. It took quite a long time and it is one of the larger drawings, making it extremely rare. Not included is the 6 month hiatus that I took in 2006 where I couldn't touch it anymore. I used very small rapidographs for this so there are easily more than 100,000 strokes of a pen in this drawing.

Daniel Quinn wrote a book called Ishmael where an unnamed narrator discusses mythology with a gorilla named Ishmael in a teacher/student sort of way. Its a great book. This drawing is meant to represent a key part of history that Quinn highlights in his book, and that is the period of time when the Leavers became the Takers; or, the birth of agriculture. To go from the hunting tribes to the gathering societies, in his mind represented the beginning of the end of man, in a sense. And here he himself is recreating that moment, although with a little garden shovel that I picked up from Target for $3.99

The dentist will worm his way into your heart.. literally. Just a quick drawing which is meant to highlight more a feeling/atmosphere than a great accurate study. Done with a felt pen. It really bothers me, and.. i like that.
